Sr Director, Product Management – World of Warcraft

Blizzard Entertainment is a community of 4,000 global employees who are passionate about not only gaming but entertainment and the technology that drives our player experience.

We are on a quest to find a legendary Director of our Product Management team who is a master of their craft to support the Warcraft franchise. The ideal candidate will partner with design leadership to evolve the World of Warcraft business and post- launch live service approach, support the development of future games in the franchise, and prepare the franchise for the future. Importantly, they will have a deep understanding of and empathy for our players. Because they are a player themselves!

The Director is an authority of the steering team for WoW, collaborating closely with the Game Director and Executive Producer to lead the end- to- end lifecycle of the game spanning the Live Service, Expansions, and long- term roadmap planning.

Product Management Leadership at Blizzard As a core part of our games’ leadership teams, successful Product Management leaders at Blizzard need an outstanding mix of quantitative and qualitative capabilities. We expect the same levels of creativity, innovation, and resourcefulness that our creative teams bring to areas like design and art from our business leaders in strategy, data, live ops, and monetization.

This requires a unique combination of data- driven thinking to identify strategic opportunities, the creativity and passion to implement in player- centric ways, and the collaboration and ability to influence and align deeply hard- working and invested teams.

Objectives

❏ Develops the long- term strategy for the business of WoW, communicates the vision, and gives updates on progress to leadership.

❏ Build the capability to provide the right data, information, and insights to support short- and long- term decision- making for the direction of the Warcraft franchise.

❏ Establish goals and critical metrics to measure player base health and business performance. Monitor and call out potential issues and share performance data with development, publishing, and commercial leadership.

❏ Identify and implement growth strategies and initiatives across WoW. Identify player needs and business opportunities, propose projects, coordinate execution, and be responsible for the commercial outcomes.

❏ Identifies discreet player segments and develops or proposes initiatives to address them.

❏ Is an authoritative resource on the genre and industry business practices: business models, live ops, content strategy, innovative features, and launches.

❏ Build, maintain, and optimize balanced monetization models that improve long- term franchise revenue.

❏ Track player life cycle and acquisition funnel and implement initiatives to grow the player base.

❏ Partner with the development team to lead the live service for World of Warcraft to drive acquisition while maintaining a healthy community; propose compelling features to improve engagement, retention, and monetization; and report on performance.

❏ Collaborate with the publishing team to define, coordinate, and implement out- of- game activities and events (e.g., pricing and promotions).

❏ Partner with publishing and development teams to develop SKU and content strategies (in and out of game).

❏ Drive clarity and transparency with key internal teams like Battle.net.

❏ Increase the repeatability of our successes by sharing standard processes and lessons learned with other game teams and bringing the best of Warcraft to Blizzard.

Competencies

  • Passion for the business of games, especially RPGs/MMOs.
  • Deep knowledge of the key performance metrics that drive game performance.
  • 8+ years of experience including product management, live ops' performance, or monetization design; proven ability to lead product management teams.
  • Experience with business intelligence, data visualization, and project management tools like SQL, Tableau, Confluence, etc.
  • Competitive analysis of genre and market. Economy and tuning teardowns.
  • Experienced manager with a history of guiding hard- working talent to do their best work.
  • Data- driven decision maker with intellectual humility and a passion for testing.
  • A leader by influence who is excited to pitch in and help.
  • Collaborative problem solver, structured and organized thinker, excellent written and spoken communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to manage sophisticated projects with diverse partners all over the world (subject areas, regions, etc.).
