Job description
Activision Blizzard - known as ABK internally - has embarked on a multi- year journey to run an ever- increasing number of workloads in public cloud - in particular Google Cloud Platform (GCP). As we progress on that journey, we now need an experienced Engineering & Product Manager to assist in the leadership of our newly formed ABK Cloud FinOps function and help support Cloud FinOps activities at both the Activision Blizzard group level and across our group of companies.
Your role at ABK
As Cloud FinOps Engineering & Product Manager at ABK, you will:
Together with our Cloud FinOps Engineer(s), be hands- on in the implementation and operation of our group- level Cloud FinOps reporting and CCMO tools/platforms
Working together with our business units (Activision, Blizzard and King), define a common taxonomy for public cloud workloads at ABK
Line- manage and provide engineering mentorship to our Cloud FinOps Engineer(s)
Work with the Director of Cloud Commercial & Financial Management and other stakeholders to define an ABK- wide Cloud FinOps strategy
Define and maintain the product roadmap for the ABK- level Cloud FinOps function
Collaborate on and document Cloud FinOps best practices - eg, around the technical optimization of particular public cloud services to reduce cost, optimal strategies for the utilization of cost- optimization instruments, etc
Work with colleagues in our nascent ABK Cloud Centre of Excellence to address issues of common concern - eg, a sudden spike in cloud spend possibly indicating a security incident
Support and/or lead Cloud FinOps tooling evaluations and POCs
Key skills
Highly knowledgeable of and proficient on at least one public cloud - ideally GCP
Experienced working with cloud APIs, REST, OAuth, IAM, etc
Strong at a Linux command line; know your cat from your grep
Strong programming skills, preferably in at least two languages (of Go, Java, Node.js and Python)
Data- native; can read and write complex SQL in your sleep
Have experience of at least one BI platform
Familiar with cloud security principles and best practices
Have line/people management experience
A passion and aptitude for product thinking, and for creating clear, engaging roadmaps and other communication artefacts
Be comfortable working across countries and timezones on a daily basis (ABK has people across North America and Europe)
Be a self- starter who can deliver results with minimal day- to- day direction
Bonus points
Proficient on multiple public clouds
BigQuery expert
Familiar with containerized applications - including on Kubernetes/GKE
Serverless savvy - ideally including Cloud Functions/Cloud Run/App Engine
GCP certified (in particular, Professional Cloud Architect and/or Professional Data Engineer)
Experienced with CCMO tools - eg, Apptio Cloudability
Understanding of financial accounting concepts such as accrual- basis accounting, depreciation and amortization
Have read the O’Reilly book “Cloud FinOps” from front to back!
